UI/UX
Bloomology app was created as my first project in the UX Design Program. We were given a prompt and were asked to find a problem and design a solution for it. I chose the prompt 'design a flower arrangement previewer app for a trendy florist'. Growing up on a nursery farm, I watched my family build a business that offered flower baskets and plants. The one thing missing was an accessible app that connected customers to the product, especially those visiting from a different region and not familiar with local businesses.
While researching flower shops, I noticed that few shops offered apps for users to quickly view arrangements and save their favorites for later. Busy individuals like myself just don't have time for more errands. Being able to view arrangements beforehand could be beneficial for anyone. So, I decided to design an app that allows users to view a variety of arrangements with the option to customize or design their own, then save it to their favorites.
Welcome to Bloomology, blooms just for you!
Background
When I began my research it was important to me to create a product that offers something new. I noticed that not all flower shops have an accessible app to quickly view arrangements and customize their favorite styles before visiting the store in person. My goal was to create an app where customers can view, share, and save favorite arrangements from Bloomology, so they spend less time wandering undecided.
Solution & Goals
Bloomology is a flower arrangement previewer app focusing to offer a quick and easy way for users to view and save their favorite arrangements from the trendy floral shop.
The Project
Users wanted to see reviews on the 'arrangement description' page.
'Design Your Own' flow needs accurate action buttons.
Some of the icons confused users.
User flow needs an obvious end point.
User Testing Insights
Busy workers and at-home individuals lack time to browse Bloomology’s flower arrangements in-person. Individuals find it stressful to take time out of the day to run another errand in a crowded store where parking may not be available.
Challenges
To understand the problem and the user needs, I conducted a survey using Google Forms and received some great insights. Here are some of the answers and data collected from it:
Q: When you want to view flower arrangements from your trendy flower shop, do you prefer to browse in person, at home, or on-the-go?
"I love looking at flowers in person but just don't have the time."
"I don't mind browsing at the store but there are so many options and the associates are always busy."
"Too busy. An app would be nice since I commute."
"Wouldn't mind an app. Then I can decide if I want to make a trip to the store."

Thank you!
While designing Bloomology, I learned that I had no idea what I was doing and many iterations followed. Despite having prior design knowledge, I was under the impression that every element on the app would be connected, not truly understanding that there had to be a distinct user flow with beginning and end points. I started out with many unnecessary screens and connections that didn't provide a clear path for the user. I didn't realize research and case studies had such an impact on the final design. I found that I loved most of the steps and was able to eliminate unnecessary elements and focus on the content that meets the user's needs.
