When I began my research it was important to me to create a product that offers simple navigation throughout as well as user friendly architecture. My goal was to create a responsive website in multiple device sizes, which allows the user to find and view fashion tutorials using different search options like a filter, the search function, navigation menu, and featured tutes.
SOLUTION & GOALS
Young adults want access to fashion tutorials that offer accessible options and are easy to find.
CHALLENGES
While doing a competitive audit, I noticed that there are a lot of sites out there that offer tutorials like YouTube, SkillShare, and Adobe, but finding sites that focus solely on fashion was more challenging. For direct competitors, I noticed that elements and architecture were not visually appealing and navigation was not user friendly throughout. Fashion enthusiasts like myself want quick access to rich content without paying for a costly yearly subscription. Being able to find and view tutorials could be beneficial for anyone who wants to learn a new skill, share their skills, or simply browse for fun. With this in mind, I designed Tutes & Tutus with familiar iconography, accessibility options like audio and video, and visual hierarchy, so the user can easily navigate throughout the site using the search function or filter options.
COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
Tutes & Tutus website was created as my second project for the UX Design program. We were given a prompt and were asked to find a problem and design a solution for it. I chose the prompt 'design a responsive website to find and view fashion tutorials'. As a fashion design student who graduated prior to social media and app development, I would have loved to have a website that solely focused on fashion tutorials at the time. I wanted to create a website that is visually pleasing, efficient, accessible, and simple for the user to navigate.

Having a difficult time finding the tutorial that you want view? Tutes & Tutus has added conveniently located search functions to allow users the option to type in exactly what they are looking for. On the homescreen, the search function is front and center to give users quick access. On additional pages, the search function can be located right below the navigation bar. Upon reaching the 'search results page' the user can narrow their search even further by adding filter options. For mobile devices, a recognizable icon is used.

Found the tutorial you're looking for? Watch a video, view the gallery, or read the tutorial with accessible options like audio, visual hierarchy, and scroll features. View comments from other users, share the tutorial with friends, or save it to your favorites. Want to see more? View more tutorials with similar content.

HIGH- FIDELITY PROTOTYPE
While designing Tutes & Tutus, I learned that even small design changes like adding a ‘previous’ button, can have a huge impact on the user experience and whether users return to the site. The most important takeaway for me is to focus on the needs of the user when coming up with ideas and solutions. Our target users shared that the design was easy to navigate, exciting to look at, and demonstrated a clear path for filtering and/or searching for tutorials.
